The Financial Coordinator is the head financial custodian of the Bike Kitchen. With the assistance of others in the Financial Coordinator Cluster, the Financial Coordinator must:

  • Ensure that the Bike Kitchen books are tidy, accurate, and never more than 30 days out of date.
  • Report the financial status to the Bike Kitchen board and staff at least every 30 days.
  • Promptly pay all Bike Kitchen bills including reimbursements.
  • Track and promptly collect all accounts receivable (i.e., special orders placed by the staff).
  • Implement cash register protocol that ensures that money collected is properly tracked and ultimately deposited.
  • Report annually to the IRS, California Franchise Tax Board (if necessary), and California Board of Equalization.
  • Refine and improve the Bike Kitchen's financial practices.

The Financial Coordinator will have full access rights to the Bike Kitchen's bank account, and will be an officer of the Bike Kitchen in the corporate sense. This latter status allows the Financial Coordinator to officially represent the Bike Kitchen by, for example, signing contracts, leases, and tax documents.

Depending on how many other folks are involved in the Financial Coordinator Cluster, this position requires a commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week, and one 3-hour scheduled mechanic shift per week. Fulfilling a scheduled mechanic shift facilitates regular attention to the cash register, mail stream, and other operational aspects of the Bike Kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Bike Kitchen
  • Very strong organization skills
  • Experience with basic accounting preferred

The Financial Coordinator is free to define sub-roles of the Financial Coordinator Cluster and recruit volunteers to fulfill these sub-roles.
