WORK IN PROGRESS

This guide is for both staff and as task assistance for volunteers. The aim is not to encourage things to be thrown away, but when bins start to overflow it can be a helpful culling guide.

Things to keep are also parts that are generally in less supply.

Wheels
Front wheel True, in round, smooth axle, lightly used breaking surface, aluminum rust, missing spokes, heavily worn/nicked breaking surface, missing axle, dents
Rear wheel True, in round, smooth axle, lightly used braking surface, aluminum Stripped threads, worn/nicked sidewalls of rim, missing axle or spokes, dents
Rim In round, true, lightly used sidewalls, no dents or cracks dented or out of true
Tire keep odd sizes on loft worn tires with cracks or nicks where glass may have penetrated, brittle sidewalls
Drive train
Chain ring Common BCD, unworn teeth, new looking. Bent, cracked, or missing teeth.
Pedal Smooth spindle, no obvious missing parts, clipless styles other than LOOK or SPD. Missing threads, loose or unturnable spindle, broken body, missing parts, plastic.
Bottom bracket Smooth sealed bearings, good condition. Pitted cups or spindle, gritty or seized sealed bearings.
Crank set Short lengths(below 170), pairs, straight arms, square taper, some cotter and one piece. steel, overflow of 175, missing other half
Chain Clean, Flexible, little wear. Keep in mind its good to have singlespeed and 9/10 speed chains. Stretched beyond use (ask staff member for tool), rusty, excessively stiff.
Cogset/Cassette lightly worn teeth, good range, functional ratchet redundent sizes, missing teeth, rust, stripped threads
Front Derailer new, double and tripple range bent, stiff, missing parts or missing clamps,
