Does the Bike Kitchen offer gift cards?
Yes. Gift cards can be issued for a specific service like a membership, or for a dollar amount.
Can I buy a gift card online/over the phone/via email?
No. Sorry. We're just not that organized. But you can send a friend by the shop during open hours to pick one up.
How do I issue a gift card?
- Grab the "Gift Card" folder out of the filing cabinet in the office.
- Find the GIFT CARD LOG and a fresh gift card
- Locate the next blank entry in the GIFT CARD LOG and fill it in.
- Fill out the blank gift card to match the GIFT CARD LOG.
- Ring up the sale like usual. For example, if the gift card is for a membership, ring up a membership. If the gift card is for a certain dollar amount, ring it up as a CODE 7 (Gift Card).
- Put the folder back!
How do I issue a gift card for promotional purposes (e.g., Winterfest prize, Alley Cat prize)?
Follow the same steps as How do I issue a gift card?, but don't bother ringing anything up.
How do I redeem a gift card?
- Grab the "Gift Card" folder out of the filing cabinet in the office.
- Locate the serial number of the gift card in the GIFT CARD LOG and ensure that everything matches.
- If everything looks good, accept the gift card. If something doesn't look right, use your discretion, common sense, etc.
- If the gift card is for a specific service, there is no need to ring anything up in the register. Just deliver the service. For example, if the gift card is for a membership, create a new membership in freehub. Finally, mark the gift card as VOID and put it in the register.
- Suppose the gift card is for a specific dollar amount, and the amount of the sale is MORE than the amount of the gift card. In this case, subtract the gift card amount from the sale and ring up the difference. For example, if somebody has a $20 gift card and is buying $25 in parts, just ring up $5 in parts. Finally, mark the gift card as void and put it in the register.
- Suppose the gift card is for a specific dollar amount, and the amount of the sale is LESS than the amount of the gift card. In this case, subtract the sale amount from the gift card amount and alter the gift card show the new value. Finally, give the altered gift card back to the patron.
- Put the folder back!
We're out of gift cards. How do I print more?
- Decide how many gift cards you're going to print.
- Create a new GIFT CARD LOG with suitable serial numbers based on the attached BKGiftCardLog.ods file.
- Track down a copy of the 4x9 post card .tif file for the gift cards TIM: Where should we keep this file? It's 14MB
- Have a reputable local print shop print out your order TIM: Any additional details here?
- Put the new gift cards and the new GIFT CARD LOG in the Gift Card folder in the filing cabinet.
